Bonjour!
There’s something special about European style. It’s a tasteful refinement and skilled use of colour and character that sets European design apart from the rest. A testament to this fabulous, French flair is the work of AMA Studio. French born, Sydney living Agathe Touguet is the face behind AMA Studio and we were so grateful to be able to discuss some of her recent designs with her.
Cottage Overhaul
Talk us through the project
This was a full renovation of the living, dining and kitchen open plan area. The house is located in Berkeley Vale (NSW) on the Central Coast. Our clients purchased the home with the cottage in dire need of a renovation; the open plan living area felt dark, oppressing and completely outdated. We reworked the floor plan of the space, changed pretty much everything from the flooring to the windows and wall finishes and updated the kitchen and laundry. It is now a beautiful, warm and sun-lit family area. The kitchen with its sage green cabinets, timber open shelves and zellige tiles is definitely the heart of the home!
How would you describe your style?
I create interiors that are warm and relaxing using natural materials and neutral, earthy colour palettes. I want the spaces that I design to be approachable and feel lived in. My style is minimalist but never sterile, I believe homes should be a cosy haven where we can unwind at the end of the day - it should feel like your interior is giving you a big hug each time you get home!
Why opt for zellige tiles for this project?
I absolutely LOVE the Tiles of Ezra Zellige tiles! Their imperfection adds a lot of character, texture and warmth to a space, which is very important for me. I hate kitchens that feel cold and sterile and these tiles definitely are not that! I often recommend Zellige tiles to my clients because of the minimal amount of grout required, which makes them easy to maintain.
