A Renovation Story

In our latest renovation story, we spotlight the remarkable transformation of a charming yet dated cottage, brought to life with our exquisite tile collections.

Leyer Design Studio, an interior styling and design firm based in the picturesque coastal town of Torquay, Victoria, first met their client, Stef, in August 2020 during a business headshot session. A quick connection was made, and Stef mentioned her plans for a future renovation. True to her word, a year later, Stef embarked on the project as an owner-builder, with her father, Rod, stepping in as the project manager.

Join us in this journal as we explore the thoughtful choices and design processes that turned this cottage into a modern coastal retreat.

Kitchen Island Bench

The kitchen island bench is often the heart of the home, and in this renovation, it became a focal point of luxury and style. Stef chose our EZR1550 Thin Clay Bejmat tiles from for this critical space. These tiles bring a tactile, textured elegance that makes the island both functional and beautiful. The rich, earthy tones of the Thin Clay Bejmat tiles complement the cottage's vintage character while adding a contemporary edge.

Durable & Refreshing Backdrop

For the pantry splashback, Stef opted for our EZRTIER1010 Nieve Tiles. This choice, with their crisp white colour and delicate texture, creates a clean and refreshing backdrop. They add a sense of lightness and openness, making the pantry feel more spacious and inviting. This selection not only enhances the functionality of the pantry by providing a durable and easy-to-clean surface but also elevates its aesthetic appeal.

Laundry Tile Splashback

By incorporating the Nieve Punto tiles in the laundry room, Stef achieved a cohesive look that ties seamlessly with the rest of the home by turning to our EZTIER1505 Nieve Punto tiles, this time in our rectangular 15cm x 5cm format. The tiles sleek, white finish brightens the laundry room, making it feel more airy and clean. This choice provides continuity in design while adding a touch of elegance to a typically utilitarian space.

A Journey in Transformation

Transforming a 1920's cottage into a modern masterpiece is no small feat, but with the right materials, it can become a dream come true. Shifting from the soft reddish tones of the brick features to creams and whites, sage greens, terrazzo, terracotta and warm timbers the home feels softly animated in its own restrained way.
